Background:
The company provided a real-time price comparison service covering over 2 million products from over 800 UK online retailers.
Their price comparison engine was, at the time, the first Price Comparison site to provide an SMS interface to their engine.
This proposition meant users could get the cheapest online price whilst they were out shopping in the high-street - it was a unique offering merging online and offline worlds that generated notable early hype.
Deal:
The management team, after a successful soft launch, was faced with the dilemma of putting up a significantly larger amount of capital for their marketing launch than anticipated to take their offering live to entire UK retail market - they approached RDCapital with a view to finding a outright buyer for their businesses in its existing state as an early exit route.
RDCapital successfully sourced a buyer for their Intellectual Property (practically meaning the code base of the application) within 2 months of receiving the instruction.
Background:
RDCapital approached a major player in the City of London Online News world with a view to develop a prototype of a business that could offer a serious alternative to the likes of eBay for the sale of second-hand goods and broaden their income sources. The business was effectively an evolution of the classified advert which offered a free-to-use service for consumers and encouraged, through the setup of "exchange zones" within the City, face-to-face transactions of goods to eliminate the risk of fraud.
The idea quickly progressed to a mock-up prototype that amassed over 170 members and generated print media interest.
Deal:
Upon mutual agreement RDCapital sold their 50% stake to co-founders who wanted to completely integrate the concept with their existing News site.
